It was my great privilege to be invited to speak at the 2024 TEDx Bermuda conference. It is possible, I have never been more stressed nor terrified of any assignment in my life. But I viewed it as an opportunity to share what I care deeply about and some of what I have learned in my life - about perception, compassion, love, learning, engagement, relationship with the natural world... and by extension with other humans as well (a learning curve for me!). It was a joy to weave in my plant photography from the last many years, highlighting the miraculous and wondrous (and weird) world in which we live - lest we forget. After the talk, I was invited by a 35-year veteran of the U.S. Intelligence and Foreign Affairs communities to come give this talk to diplomats in training. He recognised that the talk wasn't really about plants, but was about learning to pay attention to our own biases, and to be open to the intelligence of others. I haven't yet taken him up on this invitation, but I so appreciate that he got what I was trying
to say.
Whatever level you receive it on, I hope you enjoy my talk! Link here.
